Preserving Melaka's heritage




AYER KEROH - In an effort to to ensure that Melaka's rich heritage is not compromised as a result of development, the State Government together with several other parties will hold a conference on heritage conservation next month.

The World Heritage Conference : Heritage Conservation and Sustainable Development will be jointly organised by the State Government, Melaka Tourism Academy (APM), World Assembly of Youth, The Oxford Centre For Leadership, United Kingdom and Techno Trend. It will be held at the Avillion Legacy Melaka Hotel from February 23 to 24.

The conference is expected to discuss Malaysia's heritage, how we are currently managing it and how it should be sustainably grown for the future.

A panel of five speakers from the European Union, United States and Asia is expected to present their papers during the conference.

Among the topics which will be touched upon included heritage and human development, heritage and natural environment, and heritage and building preservation.

The role of human development and preservation of natural heritage in the global world will be discussed together with methods of innovative sustainable development.

Non-tangible heritage will be another key issue which will be discussed during the conference, a subject that will be heavily emphasized during the two-day conference.
